Patron Saint Troparion
Saint John Orthodox Church

The memory of the righteous is celebrated with songs of praise, but the Lord's testimony is sufficient for thee, O Forerunner. Thou wast shown indeed to be the most honorable of the prophets, for in the waters thou didst baptize him who had been proclaimed. After suffering in behalf of the truth, thou didst proclaim even to those in Hades the God who appeared in the flesh, who takes away the sin of the world and grants us the Great Mercy.

Ladies Society

The Ladies Society is an organization of St. John Orthodox Church. The First Lay Organization of our Archdiocese in North America was called “Hamilaat Al-Teeb” (Myrrh-Bearers Society), established in St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral in Brooklyn, NY. It is an important organization and arm of our church.

The purposes of the Ladies Society are:

    • To develop among the women of the Church a spirit of Christianleadership, awareness and commitment as taught in the Holy Orthodox Church.

    • To foster among women throughout the Church a genuine expression of love and service through works of charity.

    • To instill among women throughout the Church and the community at large a sense of fellowship and a deeper understanding of the heritage and traditions of the Ladies Society and the Orthodox Church.

Participation in the Ladies Society can truly include every woman in the Church in that we are all called to be members by our personal acceptance of the charge “take heed to the ministry which you have received in the Lord, that you may fulfill it” (Colossians 4:17). The Church of Jesus Christ consists of every person in it, clergy and lay people pulling together and working together. The Community of Christians is described in the Scriptures as “a priesthood of all believers”. We are all ministers of Jesus Christ, whether men or women, ordained or lay, we are called to be ambassadors for Christ. Without exception, each and every one of us is called to serve our Lord and our church in ways that allow God’s love to shine through us, for the benefit of others.
