Patron Saint Troparion
Saint John Orthodox Church

The memory of the righteous is celebrated with songs of praise, but the Lord's testimony is sufficient for thee, O Forerunner. Thou wast shown indeed to be the most honorable of the prophets, for in the waters thou didst baptize him who had been proclaimed. After suffering in behalf of the truth, thou didst proclaim even to those in Hades the God who appeared in the flesh, who takes away the sin of the world and grants us the Great Mercy.

Church School

Christian Education is a very important element of the Church: It begins with Infancy, and keeps progressing, always! It only ceases to take place at the moment of death. In other words, we are always learning about the faith and church. Each Sunday, whenever an Epistle or Gospel Lectionary lessons are read, we learn and encounter something new. Although they may seem similar, yet at each Divine Liturgy, also, we do indeed learn something new as well.

St. John Chrysostom teaches that “the Christian Home is the first Church,” and by extension, Christian Education is primarily a home-based (Christian) school. Our Sunday School Teachers spend genuine time, as little or as much as can be afforded each Sunday, in order to educate our children in the Faith. But it always remains the responsibility of parents to teach their children the basic tenets of the Faith. To that end, our Sunday School Teachers, in addition to teaching our children, with the help of the Priest, they provide parents with the tools needed for a concentrated Christian Education at home.

Due to the size and budget of our parish, as is the case in many Orthodox churches in North America, our Sunday School Classes are combined and merged, depending on the number of children we have each year. It is our earnest prayer that as we grow as a church, we would ultimately have a larger facility which would accommodate a reasonable Christian Education quarter.
